 I think there is a softness and vulnerability to any photo when you remove the color as a "distraction." In my opinion, a b&w photo requires the viewer to take photo at face value and look closer at your subject.

 I good B/W photo is ok! when I was in photography class at college the instructor had us shoot and develop B/W for a month then go back to color and see differences of before /after
